Marjorie Labarr Stonefelt passed away June 20, 2018 at home one month after a major stroke, two weeks shy of her 97th birthday. Although bedridden, she inspired all with her courage, sweetness, and joy. Born Marjorie Veryle LaBarr on July 3rd, 1921, in Bothell, she was the youngest of four children to Oliver and Lily Viola (Pearsall) LaBarr. Growing up in Kirkland, she was very athletic; champion tennis player; avid swimmer and later golfer. Prior to WWII, she met her future husband of nearly 75 years, Vernon, and they were married 12/28/1941. Soon thereafter, both served four years in the Army and then returned to Kirkland, raising three boys: Rodger, Steven and Robert. During summers, special times together were cherished at their Camano Is. cabin- -fishing, clamming and crabbing. After 50 years of spending summers on Camano and Whidbey Is., they moved from Kirkland to live their sunset years on Stoney Beach, near Oak Harbor, in 2008. These days were especially enjoyable for them, with the continual activity of wildlife and boat traffic, and warm summer days on “Mom’s Patio,” appreciating nature’s beauty. Marge, a beautiful, kind woman, was content with simple pleasures. She always thought of her family and friends first, and did whatever necessary to please them. During her life, she gave her heart to Jesus Christ and loved God for everything. She and Vern exemplified how to age with grace and kindness. Marjorie took her last breath peacefully on the morning of the 20th, where the waves lapping on the shore could be heard with the hymn, “He Leadeth Me” being sung. Her leaving is so profound but filled with tremendous gratitude. We know that with her graduation she will be waiting, and we will rejoice to meet and be reunited with Mom, Dad, and a Heavenly Father and loving Savior on the promise of a more beautiful eternal shore.
