Obituary for Anita B Miller

Anita Joan Beilke Miller
September 23, 1920 – November 2, 2017

Memorial: 1 PM, Saturday, November 18, Maple Ridge Assisted Living, 1767 Alliance Av., Freeland, WA.

Anita Joan Beilke Miller, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Freeland, Washington, November 2nd.

Growing up in farm country near Pendleton, Oregon, Anita loved animals especially horses. She often told stories as a child about going out to the barn and riding her father’s draft horses.

Just after Pearl Harbor Anita married her high school sweetheart, Joe Miller, and following the war they started a wheat and cattle ranch near Pilot Rock, Oregon. Anita delighted in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren hosting them at the ranch providing interesting activities, delicious food, and hospitality. Throughout her life she was a member of the Lutheran church and an advocate for those facing health issues or other misfortune.

In the fall of 2014, Anita and Joe retired from ranching in Pilot Rock and moved to Whidbey Island, Washington, to be near their son, Don and family. During her time on Whidbey she made many friends, supported numerous charities and found a church family at Trinity Lutheran. Seldom missing the outings provided by Maple Ridge Assisted Living she especially enjoyed touring the farmlands of Coupeville and having an ice cream cone waiting for the Clinton ferry.

Anita is preceded in death by her husband Joe of 73 years and parents Herman and Louise Beilke of Pendleton, Oregon.

Anita is survived by children Marilyn Miller, Don (Linda) Miller; grandchildren Ben (Rebecca) Armstrong, Jesse (Jenne) Miller and Chelsea Miller; great-grandchildren Natalie and Spencer Armstrong and JamiZen Miller. Her additional family included grandchildren Brieann (Jake) Zourkos, Layel Moore and great grandchildren Madison and Brhody Zourkos.

The family extends gratitude to Maple Ridge Assisted Living and Whidbey Health Hospice for their special care.
