Died: September 18, 2017
Juan Aguirre Garcia, 83, of Lynden, WA passed to heaven peacefully on Monday evening, September 18, 2017 at The Whatcom Hospice House. He was surrounded at his passing by the love of his dedicated wife of 67 years, Teresa Aleman Garcia, and by his much-loved family.
Juan, son of Manuel and Ramona Aguirre Garcia, lived across great challenge and victory. His was a hardworking and adventurous life. He was brave enough, at 15, to forge north to California from his beloved Mexico in order to make a better life for his family. His brave tenacity paved the way for each of his siblings to come north, including Dolores Gonzales of Burbank, CA. He was enamored enough, at 26, to marry the love of his life, Teresa. He was tender enough, at 35, to braid the hair of, and make school-lunch burritos for, his much-loved daughters, Ramona Garcia Slagle of Lynden, and the late Carol Diane Eklund. He was determined enough, at 50, to survive and flourish after a spine-breaking accident. He was dedicated enough, at 56, to provide engaging (lasso-enriched) childcare for his grandchildren John Roland Slagle, of Bellingham (Heidi), the late Jordan Ross Garcia Slagle, and Tova Isabella and Sven Diego Eklund of Sweden. He was faith-filled enough, at 70, to commit his life to Christ. He was elated enough, at 80, to be a doting Great-Tata to his great-granddaughters, Elena Caroline and Siena Madeline Slagle. Yet, through it all, the greatest gift of his 83 years was the contentment and companionship he came to share through his enduring and rich love for Teresa and their family.
Juan’s family and friends are ever grateful for all God has brought to their lives through this grit-filled, trailblazing man. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Juan’s honor can be made payable to the Jordan Slagle Boundary Bay Scholarship and be forwarded to Bank of America, 700 Front Street, Lynden, WA.
