The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of William Schoonover can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolences

Condolence From: Wil Shellenberger
Condolence: Bill Schoonover was one of those unique characters who add texture to life.

True to his Army background he was a good soldier. No matter the challenge, he always pitched in to do his part - with acerbic commentary to be sure, but he never let small stuff get in the way of a larger goal.

We crossed swords a few times over the years. But even when we did not agree, I could count on his support. And, on the next issue, I was certain he would give his honest view of the best course of action - never held a grudge

Beneath a crusty exterior was a dry wit and a truly warm heart. He was the perfect Santa Claus.

Above all, Bill Schoonover was patriot who loved his country. He served his country well and we will miss him.

Fair winds and following seas good soldier!

Condolence: Bill was mostly "what you saw was what you got".

I always found Bill to be a gentleman with a great wit and, when he wanted to display it, wonderful charm.

Like many fire breathers, his bark was much worse than his bite.

Bill like to instigate a conversation and often
took extreme positions to get you going.

Bill cared deeply about the country and loved being around those who, like himself, served.

He was a proud veteran who loved to regale us with stories of how he righted the ship when it was in danger of going over.

We are better off for having known Bill and those like him. Sheila and I wish Ruth fair seas as she navigates this part of the voyage without her ever present watch captain.
